Ep. 8 Helen’s Leadville Trail 100

Its summertime and things are heating up here in Santa Barbara, literally and figuratively. A big heatwave brought brutally hot running conditions to Santa Barbara and several SB runners are showing up at big mountain races. Dave and Deanna Odell both ran the brutal 92-mile TDS race in Chamonix, France a couple weeks ago. Rosina Garcia and Meghan Voorhees are both running at The RUT out in Big Sky, Montana this weekend. Jon Sutherland is training hard for the Angeles Crest 100 mile this October. And Helen Payne, SB trail queen, just ran the high mountain Leadville Trail 100 in Leadville, Colorado.

In this episode we hear Helen’s stories from Leadville and a bit about her history with running, including her first marathon in middle school! Helen is a central part of the running community in Santa Barbara, organizing several community events throughout the year.
